Re: Atlantic Delivery

If you do nothing else in life Atoll, and I am sure that you will, you will be remembered on here for this. Great effort.

Re: Atlantic Delivery

Wow..it took me two hrs to read every post from this morning so I could say something valuable.

Cruisers Forum....you....I'm speachless...THIS is why I bought a boat; THIS is why like ilk of minds and real mariners get along as long as there is separation.

+11 really....EPIC!

Boatman might have to respond to certain posts here and I can't wait to here the story...wheeeeeew!

Good on all of us too, we are with, but never without.

Cheers Boaty,
Markus

No kiddin. Boaty and crew jst got hooked up

Some people talk. Some people get sht done. Way to get something big done, sans fanfare, Atoll.

I haven't read ahead yet, but ya, Phil just pulled some international man of mystery program with the Atoll connection. "The name is man.......boatman. OR boat member.

Casting....Mike Myers? Is Michael Palin too old? casting will be fun for this one. Atoll as Atoll, or Martin Freeman or Iain Glen can stand in if you're on delivery. Or busy making dudes look cool. Can't wait to see who plays the iberian princesses. Key team members I have to assume, as well, Gadagirl.

Great story, and
horta aint the end, right? I confess, I came in at post 7000

um grande abraço boaty - bom travalho

Re: Atlantic Delivery

@atoll, you did what you deemed necessary, and you asked advice to all, advice was given and bottom line your intuition was there rock solid. This helps all of us to actually feel that mindset. Thank you.

@Saltymonkey....poem???

@mdsailor....wise

@Ann...your compassion never got in the way of the truth, thank you.

@Wotname........I bet you are relieved a bit, he is your personal friend for life, we all have them.

@ Boatman61.....damn dude, I can't wait to buy you a lager(Yuengling) and listen to your life and "what's next"?

To all...well done,

Markus

I don't know for sure but I understand the crew is highly experienced - but not as much as Boatie

Re: Atlantic Delivery

Hey Phil, just wondering, are you going to be using the SPOT again on the next leg?

if he does i would reccomend instead of having it on twice a day for two hours at a time,having it on 4 times a day for an hour at a time.

this would have made interpreting it a lot easier,

as what we were actually seeing was phil heaving too at night as the solar panels stopped supplying enough power to run the auto pilot,
and being basically single handed not hand steering overnight accounting for the drift rates of 1knot.

once the sun had been up for an hour or so the auto pilot would function and phil would resume sailing at 4+ knots or so,under genoa only,
as with out the aid of an engine to point up to windward, he was unable to get the mainsail up and sail faster.

with the spot only transmitting twice in 24hrs we were seeing a very erractic course,and a deceptive AVERAGE speed,which was interpreted as an inability to sail faster than 2.5-3knots,even in 20+knots of wind.

couple that with the know navtex message that stated total engine,electrical and comm failure, and single handed led to the conclusion that he was slightly more disabled than he actually was.

spot or no spot i think yes,but maybe not broadcasting to the wider world,and let the nominated person know that IF their is a real problem THEY will be the recieving a text from the spot!

i was totally unaware that phil had used my number to send a text to if he ran into real trouble.
