Re: Atlantic delivery

Actually, it looks to me he is headed to Maine to pick up the lobsters I'll have waiting for him. By the time he gets here, spring will be here (not!).
He can help me put the Leopard in the water.

Re: Atlantic delivery

I am really hoping Boaty finds Alpha 42 "Be Good Too" in his travels and tows her home. He deserves to have a brand new catamaran of his own.

Upon what basis do you extrapolate the route? I'm not disagreeing but if it were me I'd take the route based on current weather. Further north on the stream one could expect northerly winds.

That route is too far south of the estimated drift of Alpha. Besides, do you want to attempt salvage while on a delivery? As owner, I'd be ticked if a hired hand jeopardized or delayed my delivery because he wanted to enrich himself with a salvage. To assuage my wrath I'd expect at least a 70/30 split. However, if he were to make note of the position of Alpha for a later salvage I would be okay...as long as it didn't incur significant expense to me.

Re: Atlantic delivery

Oh, good grief! I read that as someone wishing something nice would happen for Boatie, not that it was a practical wish. Geez!

Re: Atlantic delivery

How about someone writing something a bit smart-a**, to give Boaty a laugh. I'm no good at that, but surely someone could!

FAIR WINDS, BOATY!

If you happened upon a new $700,000 catamaran in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean and tie a rope on it, then you become the new owner.

Itís like Boaty would have won the lottery.

At least he could hop on board and take a few pictures of his prize if he decided to set it adrift again.

If he towed it into Bermuda he could sell it real quick for a bag of money and be on his way.

Re: Atlantic delivery

Phil,
Wish you fair winds, cap'n!
(sorry, I'm missed this thread earlier, I was working...)

Anyone wishing to examine historical weather and that forecast for the next few days, as well as seeing the Great Circle Route...have a look...

Hey, we all know that you sail with the weather/winds that you have, especially on an ocean crossing....
And, I suspect he's got his plan and will adapt if/as needed...

Now, myself, I wouldn't want to sail the N. Atlantic, from the US to Europe, in November....too freaking COLD!!!
So, my hat's off to Phil and the delivery skipper's like him!!!
(hearty souls, them guys!!!

Fair winds, Phil!!

John
