Re: Atlantic Delivery
Man o Man has someone become punch drunk on this tread or what?
It's improbable that the grib's are that off so I have to agree that something must be broke, preventing him from sailing, at least quickly. The course has maintained steady enough that a steering failure isn't likely. Even with a blown out main or jib, the other should be able to keep him going faster than 3 knots downwind. So I'd guess some type of rig failure that isn't critical but is preventing him from stressing it too much.

Re: Atlantic Delivery
Perhaps he stumbled upon a salvage opportunity or has otherwise taken up a tow...
Or he has an appointment in the Azores but doesn't want to spend extra $$ to get there early...
Or perhaps something such as a huge fishing line caught on one or both of the saildrives and is acting like a drouge...
There are any number of possibilities to the slow progress. It does make for an exciting thread (as long as everyone stays safe)!

Atlantic Delivery
It makes sense that something is broken , would also explain making a beeline for Horta, he could even be under engine , going slow to preserve fuel

A new Alpha 42 "Be Good Too"in tow would slow Boaty down a bit, but would be worth the extra drag.
Wonder what is slowing him down?

Re: Atlantic Delivery
Err... Guys, how about autopilot problems so they had to hand steer. They got tired and Boatie, being a conservative type of sailor, suggested they have a nap to rest up and now they are ready to go again to get autopilot repaired and refuel.

Latitude :37.21278Longitude :-32.12347Time :13 March 2014 09:29:29
@wotaname,even hand steering 2up,for 16 hours a day they should still make 100 miles a day easily in the current conditions

Re: Atlantic Delivery
It is worrying. Must be related to rigging or sails - only explanation for slow pace.

Re: Atlantic Delivery
I'm with everybody else that something is definitely wrong... and agree with Alex' suggestion that at least some manner of controllable steerage is present... Something has let go, and he's reduced to a slow crawl as to not create worse equipment problems....
He'll get through this...
Or as previously suggested.... He is completely messing with all of us.... And getting his money's worth of entertainment out of his new Spot...
