Re: Atlantic Delivery

Well, if this thread achieves nothing else at least it has brought us "serpiginous".

Its usage last peaked, I note, in 1880, so it's about due for another flutter.

Will anyone join me in this noble mission?

PS: Hope boaty has better weather than here.

Gusting 80 (knots, not kph),
12 rooves gone over this way.
Its barely ten days since last loss of rooves --
all said and done, getting a bit tiresome.

I'd rather be sailing ... but not just now, and not just here.

The silver lining is that they hadn't yet got
around to reinstating the marina from another
of these muckle bits o' wind. All that's left is an
assortment (a subset, at that) of the original piles ...

I guess they got a bit demoralised after the first couple of de-marinafications.

Yes. I will keep a snake eye out for it.

Re: Atlantic Delivery

Apparently in some role playing games serpiginous dementia can be contracted by contact with certain other characters. The effect is to reduce intelligence (10 points), personality (10 points) and will power (5 or 10 points). Sort of like reading some posts to this thread now that I think about it.

According to https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Serpiginous it’s not contagious unless maybe? It occurs in his eye? I’m sure it’s not that because clearly he can read! Still he’d be wise to have a doctor check him out once he arrives home. Perhaps a topical ointment, rubbed upon his affliction would suffice?
Serpiginous, often referring to some chronic medical affliction, signifies it as slowly progressive or "creeping", such as ringworm. Regarding skin ailments in particular, this means that such a disease leaves scar tissue below while continuing to affect the skin above.
Serpiginous choroidopathy is an eye condition. The cause is unknown. The symptoms that an affected person who has it includes blurry vision. A person who has it usually has no symptoms until it has progressed to involve the macula, the part of the fundus (eye) where central vision is processed.
There is a possible link with HLA-B7 and the condition is more common in Caucasians and individuals in their 40s and 50s.
The name of the condition stems from the appearance of snakelike chorioretinal atrophy in the eye and is not contagious. There is no link between ringworm and serpiginous choroidopathy.

That is why, as I said above, I am keeping a snake eye open for it.

Yep, got it. LMAO But still, I don't think any of us want to take any chances or make assumptions until it's been properly diagnosed.

This is a great thread! I'm learning and laughing Thanks Boatman

Re: Atlantic Delivery

Can someone post Boatman's position and heading for me. The spot website is blocked here in China.

I'll be here for another 2 weeks, and I don't think I can go that long without my boatie fix.

I was thinking more along the lines of, like, using it, sparking a renaissance unseen in 135 years.

there, that should give Google something to ruminate on, or at least serve as an "a pair o' teef" to whet its illimititious appetitionalities.
