delcrest,

My FP Mahe 36 came across the atlantic on its own bottom from France to Newport Rhode Island, USA

Has a bridge deck clearance 28 inches which is up there with the best of them.

Athena & Mahe yes - even the 105 has had many crossings in that area, but not designed for offshore-I think the Athena is the best of them-for bad weather- the last of the hand layed glass cats- been around a long time and has sailed everywhere for the last 10-12 years

I wouldn't want to be on big seas in the Gemini. The FPs are blue-water boats. We have a friend with a Mahe who says it's a bit too short - uncomfortable pitching, but not unsafe. Much better living space on the Mahe, than on the old Athena.

This is one other stout little cat cruiser that didn't make your list, PDQ 36.

The Mahe and Athena aren't the roomiest but the Athena should be a lot more comfortable, just not quite as modern in internal styling. Some Athena's are getting a little long in the tooth though. Have seen some cheap Med based Mahe's though which could sway you.

the last Athena was lanched at the factory in April 2006 and had many of the Lavizzi features on it- The Mahe is still being produced

Re: athena 38, mahe 36 or gemini 105c

The Athena 38 and Lavezzi 40 share many similarities and aren't "that" much different in size, so a likely reason why they ditched the 38.

I would imagine that the rumours around the Lagoon 38 being discontinued started for similar reasons. (it's not discontinued by the way or not likely to be any time soon suposedly).

My bad...

They are currently making:

Mahe 36
Lipari 41
Orana 44
Salina 48
Sanya 57 (new)

Plus the day cruising range.

I'd go with the Athena simply because it has a much longer history and is a bit bigger than the Mahe.
