Anyone sailed a Seawind 1250?

Anyone sailed a 1250? I'm hurious how it sailed vs. Seawind 1160, and whether it offered substantially more amenities and comfort.

Re: Anyone sailed a Seawind 1250?

I can't answer the question in regards to sail compairison but can give my impression of the comfort comparison,

In the hulls I felt there was not much of a difference but the main advantage of the 1250 was in the saloon and targa area, you can fit a larger tender and has more seating space , feels about 1 m wider than my 1160 but more freeboard, best way to discribe is an 1160 on steroids. If money was not a factor I would go with the new 1260 but you can almost buy 2 x 1160s for the price of the 1260

Thanks Andrew. How long have you had your 1160? What should potential buyers of 1160s and 1250s, since they're similar, look out for when evaluating?

Had the 1160 for 3 months now, sailed around 900 nautical miles so far in Asia, (Vietnam and Malaysia). The 1160 seems to attract a different buyer compared to the 1260 due to price point, if you like having larger groups or another couple onboard and want diesels go for the 1260. If just the 2 of you then the 1160 , if you keep the 1160 light , no genset etc then it's a very fast light wind boat, but best talking to someone that also owns a 1250, believe there is 1250 locally in Asia that is currently for sale (1 year old) and very well priced,

Re: Anyone sailed a Seawind 1250?

I was really just curious about 1250, since I saw one in NZ that looked to be in good shape for not much more than a lot of 1160s. Realistically, an 1160 is more in keeping with our needs, and budget. We previously got on fine on our 10.5m cat, so 11.6m would, for us, feel very spacious.

Out of curiosity, did you buy a Lite, or a Deluxe? I really like the Lite concept, with outboards, less overall complexity and lower price point than Deluxe. I'm guessing the price advantage of the Deluxe diminishes though once you start to option out, but still, added speed and ease of maintenance is very appealing.

Congrats on your purchase!

If I was in the market I would seriously take a look at the 1250 for sale in Malaysia at the moment ,

http://www.multihullcentral.com/seawind-1250-catamaran-1/

I went with the 1160 Lite as specifically wanted petrol for cruising around Asia and South Pacific, also having owned diesel yachts previously I did not want diesels & saildrives .... Especially Two on a boat ever again ,

A reasonable specked 1160 sail away from Vietnam is around the 370 USD mark depending what you go for so another 50k you could get a slightly used 1250

Slightly off topic, but how do you find the sea winds for socializing and relaxing at anchor? I an wondering about the lack of a table and area for recumbent relaxation in the cockpit?

The way the cockpit opens into the saloon, the saloon table becomes a sort of de-facto cockpit table anyway.

One of the deciding factors of going with a Seawind was precisely that you don't need a 2nd table , especially on a small 40 foot cat. The Seawind were the original "open40 " concept so when you open the trifold doors and front windows you are effectively outdoors . The cockpit area we leave for all our dive gear and compressor setups
