Hey, Alinghi chose their weapon, they just chose poorly I'm thinking. This one reminds me of the first time the US lost the cup. The Kiwi's had that keel that made the difference. Today, it's the USA's wing.

I heard that Alinghi wanted a wing built but couldn't get it done in time.

I thought I read that Alinghi was undefeated. Is this true?

Finding a replay was a PITA! This site says it's replaying it in a loop "overnight."

As far as the regatta goes, they are undefeated (yet) They did lose the first race of a best of three to BMWO today...

Bit of a mismatch, but not as bad as when they tried to race a mono against a cat...

Are you perhaps referring to the 'wing keel' of the Aussie's? That was on a 12 meter.... and lots of lawyers were involved(!)

Hmmm, what is wrong with this picture? The lawyers seem to be showing up everywhere

It's all part of the plan ... we get them involved in racng, then we get them on the boats, then we take 'em out and dump them :0)

After oohing and ahing at the technology for about 30min I became quite bored with the race... I do hope they go back to mono's next time...and this from a CAT guy.... they should also outlaw all assisted power devices...

just one mans opinion...

I watched the after-race pressers and both sides agreed the winds were "shifty and puffy" -- exactly the kind of conditions where you would have expected to see a dozen tacks up to the windward mark and perhaps at least a couple of jibes downwind.

We saw virtually none of that because the cost of a tack in time and forward momentum is just too great to risk. Coutts himself has said as much, i.e., that one wrong tack is very costly in these boats because they do it so poorly vis-a-vis the old AC Class monos.

My apologies to my Mates from the fair land of Oz. Twas the Aussies at that and the first (to my knowledge) time where new technology played such a role.
