Anchor Locker Windlass Problem

Hi folks,
My anchor windlass is located between the main hull and starboard ama. The anchor locker is not deep enough. I can install a chain wheel at the present location for the windlass to rotate the chain 90 degrees, then move the windlass to a position where the chain can drop into a locker in the main hull. Or move the windlass to the conventional position on the bow. This would put 250 lbs of chain plus the anchor and attendant gear in the bow. The idea with moving the windlass to its present position was to get the weight out of the bow.
The boat is a 38 foot Cross
Any suggestions?

I'd develop that plan you thought about, it's not that uncommon and done well works fine.

Good bearings in the lead gypsy and try to minimise the angles.
