Amercian Manufactured Catamarans

I have searched all over and keep running into no good info. Are there any American catamaran manufacturers left other than Gemini? My wife and I love the idea of starting a business from a nice live aboard, but don't want to violate the Jones act. Can anyone recommend any?

Manta was USA built. Great boat for a cruising couple, but not an ideal charter layout (...better than a Gemini though).

You dont have to violate the Jones Act. Research MRAD waiver. Many foreign built boats are in charter service in the USA under MRAD waiver. Its not hard to do.

There's the Ocean Cats but they only made 10 or so and one just sold, Maine Cats and they are still in biz and there's a few on YW in power and sail, The Lagoon TPIs from the 1990s were made in the US and there's 2 on YW, A few Gunboats were made in the US but they had issues and the Alphas but they had issues too. Endeavor used to be aligned with Manta and they made a few sail versions but they are mostly power now I think.

It's only Gems and MCs now which is sad.

I think Maine Cat had a customer who wanted a USCG inspected version of their 38, not sure if they decided to build it.

Tracey Dell ran sailing schools and charters with the Maine Cat 30 and 41 for years in NJ and FL. https://www.kathleend.net/ There is a Maine Cat 30 that used to run day charters in San Diego as well.

There were also a number of Chris White's cats built by various folks in the US over the years.

You can also request a Jones Act waiver.

Oooh, there is a fine idea...custom build a Chris White in the USA. Problem is, the thought of the cost takes my breath away. [emoji33]

I think there are a number of preexisting Atlantic cats that where built on the east coast. Don't know the % of builds that we're done in the US, but have seen several on the used market over the years.

Re: Amercian Manufactured Catamarans

Would it make sense to put some serious thinking and capital into creating a catamaran factory in the USA nowadays?
