Re: 52ft Cat Mast Rigging and Sails - Where Would I Find ?

Tmoney, thanks for the number and contact info. I talked to Rob, very nice fellow, and that mast won't work for me. I can't use a roller furling mast, and it's too small in section.

It's a heck of a deal for someone though.

It's 65 feet long over all, keel stepped, the boom is about 18 feet long and the mainsail is there. The whole package can be had for $1000 all in, if you pick it up. Or $750 for the mast (no rigging), $250 for the boom and $200 for the sail.

Cheers.
Paul.

Re: 52ft Cat Mast Rigging and Sails - Where Would I Find ?

Aparently the load differences between a monohull and a catamaran are extremely different. So I cannot use a monohull mast on a catamaran. This is what rigworks in San Diego told me. Whats the big difference anyone know?

The mast advertised in L38 is sitting on the roof of the boatyard in Santa Barbara. I believe it is the old mast off of Profligate.

Monos heel and bleed the wind off. Multis just take it so their masts have to be stronger.

Re: 52ft Cat Mast Rigging and Sails - Where Would I Find ?

The mast section will be beefier, the rigging wire one size larger than for monos. As stated above, monos heel to spill excess wind energy, multihulls accellerate. The mast wants to push down, hard, and must be well supported at its base or it will literally spear the boat.

I saw your thread in the multi forum. You will need someone who understands multihull rudders (and boards, which you didn't mention).
