Here the old auction... its a Crowther Super Shockwave with a 55' Marstrom carbon mast, right ?

I hope its not a gimmick as the boat was sold in July 2015 for 85,000 US dollars.... and now maybe it is re-sold more expensive ?

For a boat built 1985, even refitted... and as it looks more kind of "daycruiser" no more a low prize.

I have owned the 38x24 Harris trimaran for over 5 years, I love the boat but it is 3000 miles away from my home. I have looked for partners, offered to share her but no takers. the youth of today live their adventures on their phones and computers, to bad for them. this Is still my dream boat.

I suppose the reasons are differently. Shortly I had an interesting talk with the president of a European national multihull association (NGO) with more than 400 members of multihull sailrs.
He told me, that the marinas and harbour masters already have troubles, to fill their boxes and look urgently for boat owners filling the empty space. It is not related to multihulls, it seems generally a problem.

He explained it that way: "Young people nowadays like to do lots of "adventures"... from bungee jumping to climbing Himalayas. They are no more willing to bind all their energy, time and money for one single hobby and for owning one boat. Thats too boring for them."

I suppose this is the real reason behind... for the younger @-generation via WWW they get access for more than 1 1/2 decades now to many different kind of sports... and earning enough money its easy to jump here and there by airplane having different activities.

This trend started already in the 90th when it became hip to fly from Europe for a weekend to NewYork for going shopping or visiting a concert in Carnegie Hall. Collecting short memories to impress friends and working colleagues...

On my own I didnt want to own a boat in my 20th/30th as I wanted keep myself more flexible to experience sailing on different boat times and regions.

Now I am >50 and can make myself confident to own a boat as I can combine work with living on a boat. But it has to be a fast boat coming from A to B quickly :-), e.g the beautiful Cruising Trimaran Spirit (originally a Formula 40).

I was on Spirit and I am curious why they call her a Formula 40, what year was she launched? the restoration was beautifully done, good for them!,.....

yeah... work, time and cost intensive restauration, indeed... took more than one year the complete refit. I wonder how John brings all that money together.

Maybe he still makes an earning from the DVD documenting the boat and AZAB (The Azores and Back) race... which one still can buy.

This boat was known in U.K. as "Spirit of England" and set in 1995 a new AZAB record mark, having been sailed by Peter Clutterbuck and Brian Thompson with some dramas, e.g. capsizing and dismasting on the return.

For building Tri "Spirit of England" was involved multihull specialists Patric Boyd Multihulls Ltd. (founded in 1975 by owner Patrick Boyd). The designer was Merfyn Owen (still designing impressive racing boats, e.g. the Vendee Globe Open 60).

The trimaran was built during 1988/1989 with a late launch in 1993. The boat building company was Irving Boatbuilding under David Irving (U.K., Bursledon on the River Hamble in Hampshire). I am not sure if this company actually is better known nowadays as Moody Yachts UK Ltd.

Jason bought the boat in USA couple of years ago, in 2010... and had a slow-motion cruising to Australia till 2014, after a 1st step rennovation in the Newport shipyard (with a new cevlar deck).
Spirit already came 2000 to the USA as "Spirit from Stonington, Connecticut"... as mentioned the original name of the boat was "Spirit of England".

I wonder how Jason found Claudia from Italy she flew to Australia in 2014 and did a lot of the hard, ugly dirty work...

Hope Claudia deserves it (with fully respect by John) to become co-owner of the boat.

John registrated Spirit in July under Dutch flag. Wondering why ? Maybe some tax benefits putting it under the roof of a Ship company in Netherlands, who knows.

Same boat was offered 3 years ago in 2010 for 85 Thousand dollars.

This Condor 40 named JAZ is sailing... skipper/owner is Chris Laletin. I suppose he made it to get this beauty for the upper 20KUS€. Lucky man he must be...
