2003 Lagoon 38 vs 2009 Lavezzi 40

We are looking to charter in the Grenadines this coming December and have the choice between a 2003 Lagoon 38 and the 2009 Lavezzi 40. I do know that the Lagoon has an owner that upgrades and takes very good care of his boat. Wondering which one to go with. The trip will be mostly downwind as we will pick up in St. Vincent and drop in Grenada. We have 6 people, 2 of them being 6'4" so need a little more room. The name of the Lagoon is Tir Na Nog and the Lavezzi is named Swami if you have chartered either of them.

Just for the extra space alone I would push you towards the Fountaine Pajot 40. With 6 people onboard you'll find it more comfortable and faster to boot...JMHO

Funny, I was thinking the Lagoon 38 actually seemed to have more headroom and more room in the saloon but I'm just looking at pictures.

I'd go for the Lavezzi. It has plenty of room in the saloon and the cockpit is a real plus especially with the walk through to the aft platform which is great for fishing etc when compared to the closed in cockpit on the Lagoon. The Lavezzi is also a good sea boat & has a much better galley setup as well.

I have several Lavezzi clips on my YouTube channel which has the same name as my CF username which you may like to take a look at.

Here is just one of them which gives you a good view of the saloon & cockpit:-

Barefoot Yacht Charters out of St. Vincent. Right now the Lavezzi is with Horizon but it is coming over from their fleet to Barefoot's fleet in April. Tir Na Nog is a great name!

We chartered Tir Na Nog quite a few years ago and as Barefoot described, she was well maintained at the time. I'm 6'3" and I had plenty of headroom. I have no experience with an FP Lavezzi so can't comment. We had six people on board, four adults and two teens and had plenty of room.

It seems you have a choice between a very good boat and a very good boat. I envy you.

We decided to go with Tir Na Nog, the Lagoon. The fact that she is well taken care of and used frequently by the owner put her on top.

The Lagoon 38 is the most successful (total sold) catamaran ever. There must be a reason, or two...
