Angry Yanmar 3GM30F

My motor was working fine but suddenly slowed down and stopped and won't restart. The valves have been adjusted, the fuel has no air in the lines and the filters are clean. There is now exhaust coming out my air intake when I try to start it.

Any suggestions?

Exhaust somehow clogged or blocked?

Verify all compression levers are DOWN?

Stuck "kill switch" cable/lever on the injector pump?

Re: Yanmar 3GM30F

Sounds like a fouled exhaust injection elbow. These need to be replaced about every 1000 hours on this engine.

Also when you try to start it does the exhaust blow white or grey smoke. If so that pretty well eliminates a fuel delivery problem and points to the exhaust elbow.

Thanks very much. You were right. A completely blocked mixing elbow.

The 2GM20F suffers from the same malady. We chiseled the mixing elbow opening and will try to get another year out of it. We also checked the thermostat to make sure she was running hot enough.
