Boat driven onto the rocks near Sagres by strong sea's..
All 3 crew managed to be saved.. looks like a big Ovni from the brief shots..

No matter what the boat or who the owner is I always feel bad for both.

Keep us informed please.

Its on the Atlantic side near Vila do Bispo.. about 10-15 miles or so N of Cabo San Vincente... nasty place to get caught and there were some big rollers out there in the shot... dunno what went wrong to have them that close in on a lee shore..

pirate Re: Yacht on the rocks

I think it was the shallows and small logoons that contributed to the crew getting off safely... the rig was still sound.. depends on the hull damage as to whether she can be salvaged.. trouble is theres stronger winds coming in fast.. and sea's 5metres and more.

Re: Yacht on the rocks

More wx (...) scheduled later this week. It is about the only time I have seen 12 m wave forecast for la Coruna. Why sail in those waters at this time of the year.

Images anyone?

If she is an ovni, they will just lift her with a crane and that's that. But if rocks ... alloy+rocks, I think, bad combo?

A 300' freighter also went ashore today on the French coast, near Biarritz. The crew was heliported off, but the ship broke in two. Nasty weather over there.

Not an Ovni it seems... a 20 metre yacht bound it seems for the Canaries... why so close inshore who knows... difficult area for salvage... news link below.. the 3 on board were Polish I believe

Currently 8 Ports along the Portuguese coast are closed.. from Viana de Costello in the North round to Faro in the Algarve..
Baiona in Spain is also taking a pounding..

Re: Yacht on the rocks

Very nice looking sailboat! Hope they can avoid more damage, but with stronger winds forecast, I almost hate to think about will happen at each successive high tide if they don't do something to either get her afloat or lifted out of there by a crane soon.

Sails are up, wonder why they were unable to tack their way out?

Our books have gotten 5 star reviews on Amazon. Several readers have written "I never thought I would go on a circumnavigation, but when I read these books, I was right there in the cockpit with Vinni and Carsten"
