Windvane on a Jeanneau

Hi!
I am about to buy a Jeanneau 40 with an "open" transom.

Is it possible to mount a windvane on that kind of stern?

Best
Andreas

Re: Windvane on a Jeanneau

Have a look at the Windpilot website. They have mounts that work on all sorts of boats.

And they are good windvanes, too!

Jim gives you good advice, Peter at WindPilot has a good product. Depending where you live there are other excellent choices as well.

Hydrovanes wouk quite well when mounted not dead center. Monitor/scanmar also make a swing mount as well for open transoms, but that's a lot of stainless and weight back there.

yes I am wondering how someone would mount one on the newer Jeanneaus 349, 379, etc with fold down station wagon doors.

There is a thread about this on the Jeanneau Owners forum

They do get fitted as the "pillar" is far enough away to allow the doors to be opened.

Have a friend with a 42DS who just installed a Hydrovane. Seemed to work just fine.

Re: Windvane on a Jeanneau

I have fitted a Hydrovane on my SO40, about 40cm off centre, so my bathing platform is still useable. Works really well. Do go for the A-brackets though. costs more, but soooo much stronger and better.

If you need photos, let me know.
