In the past I would say:

If I lived where draft was no issue, I would love a Jonmeri 40.
If I lived in an area that had shallow water it would be an F&C 44 for me.

Nowadays I would say that the fixer upper Compass 47 we picked up is and will be my dreamboat for the rest of my life. I don't even look for sailboats on Yacht World anymore.

Without question, a Hinckley Bermuda 40, sloop. Perfect lines, the best quality, classic style.

I was just looking at another poster's choice, the Friendship 40 and I have to admit, it's next in line.

I love Swan's, Morris Yachts and Aldens as well. There are lots of dream boats out there, but I'm happy on my smaller boat. Find the footprint you can afford and fill it.

If I had a choice it would have to be the Oyster 45.
Fantastic build, wonderful to sail, can be single handed. It is everything a boat should be.
Wait a minute, We have got one.... Yeeesssss
The ammount of attention it attracts is great as we meet so many new friends.

I would be in bliss with anything sea kindly with sexy lines in a ketch or yawl, but it needs to have the head, shower and wet locker at the bottom of the companion way stairs, big lavish living spaces with a heater or even pot-belly stove, room on deck for a REAL tender and heaps of storage for ground tackle and sails.

Believe it or not, they did once build boats - or should I say ships? - like that.

Judging from the pictures and the description, do you think it's any worth to invest in a survey ?
I think I'm going to commit this "act" but I feel a bit alone in this thing. People I know, they just think I'm delirious... but I dream of her every day and night untill I finally fall asleep.

Zampano, Beautiful looking craft in need of lots of TLC. If the hull and everything else is sound you will probably be looking at at least a further investment of 120K to bring her up to her former beauty. It looks as thought he teak decks would need to be stripped or replaced and if the sails are from 1976 they are almost definitely at the end of their life. Plus all the other hidden items not mentioned.....tanks etc. If you are not in a hurry it would be a good buy as similar in good condition are 3 to 4 times the price and will still need a 100K spent on them.

The ultimate for me would be a Nauticat 515. However, if you are looking for a top quality boat under 35 feet, I would go for a Lyle Hess design such as the Bristol Channel Cutter or the Nør'sea 27. Incidentally, the Nør'sea 27 comes in either a center cockpit or aft cockpit versions. I prefer the latter, because the layout of the interior is much better, more headroom near the aft berths ( I'm over 6 foot tall) and the companionway ladder isn't up against the galley. Also, there is only one companionway hatch to deal with. The Nør'sea is trailerable but you'll need a crane to lift it on/off the trailer.
The Halberg-Rassy 31 is also a very good choice.
