pirate What price should I ask for my boat...

Its seems to me there's a load of fantasists trotting around making proclamations like..
If a boats advertised in the MED offer 50% less.. they always jack up the price for the sun..
or.. all sellers add 25-50% to get what they want..
so offer them at least 40% less...
Where are these weird and wonderful things dreamt up...
1981 steel Van de Stadt 37 with hull lengthened to facilitate a swim platform resulting in an LOA of 11.9metres.
A sailaway and keep basic or.. a mobile project to mould around you.. steel makes life so easy internal furniture wise.. topsides.. functional but always room for improvement...
StuM... what dya reckon mate...
Oppssss.... fore and aft cabin, salon galley and basic head/shower.. sorriiiieeeee

Whatever you paid for it + 20-40% to cover whatever work you performed incl the transport time etc. You haven't had it that long

Rent the thing out Phil, on AirBnB for accommodation where you are..
You'll at least cover your costs for keeping it.

Aarrrrgggreeed. But you brought it to a nicey nice location, and brought 'er up some so you should at least ask for somethin'.

Too much boat for a monkey too. 30-34 √ Tiller √√ (but hard to find).

Boaty will find someone.

Re: What price should I ask for my boat...

I suspect wheel steering may be future grounds for me not keeping the boat I am in the process of buying (even though it is my ideal size at 32ft, and I like the layout - well, it's about the same as nearly all boats tbh, beds in the pointy end, toilet handy for in the night, inadequate cupboards close by, seaty bit, cooky bit, then stairs up to work, with another sleepy bit at the bottom of the stairs too).

I wonder if it is horribly expensive to convert one to tiller? Must look into that.

Best of luck with the boat selling boaty. I haven't got a clue what you should be asking for it. The seller of mine was asking a reasonable amount, so I wasn't cheeky, I offered a bit more than a couple not quite as nice went for (worked out at 20% off the asking), and that got a satisfactory response with us meeting in the middle, subject to survey and sea trial (so leeway left still).

TBH though, what some of the others are expecting to get for what aren't exactly well kept boats, I'd start with an offer at maybe even more than 75% off the asking price. There's a heck of a lot that obviously haven't had any TLC lavished on them since 2008.

Its a tough selling ground.. the Portuguese start at 10% asking and work their way up..

Then you need to take it to Scotland. Scots start at 90% OVER asking price and work their way down

Indeed. There should be a word between "needs" and "work" on any boat. Words like "an astonishing amount" or "just the typical" or whatever. It's a boat. (but I bet Boaty's boat is a pretty dang good boat that does not need an astonishing amount of work)

Am I alone or are there others that get all weirded out when Boaty changes his avatar? It's like there's a disruption in the force or something.
