Re: What price should I ask for my boat...

I couldn't agree more on the idea of a 30 footer with a tiller. Being fairly rookie, I fi ally worked my way up to 36 feet and the wheel I thought I had to have. Because I can only afford old boats, the 36 feet did nothing but jack up repair costs. The cabin wasn't any bigger than the 29 footer I have now, and man did I miss my tiller.

Am I alone or are there others that get all weirded out when Boaty changes his avatar? It's like there's a disruption in the force or something.
Well... Truth be told.. I dare not post an as is now pic.. looks like a bombs hit the interior..

I NEVER thought Woody Allen is an artist. I don't even think him as a human being.

1981 steel Van de Stadt 37 with hull lengthened to facilitate a swim platform resulting in an LOA of 11.9metres.

Oppssss.... fore and aft cabin, salon galley and basic head/shower.. sorriiiieeeee
Swim platform is something I have planned for mine one day. A welder (who I didn't use this year for the first time in 4 years) was keen to do it this year, but I've spent enough money painting it.

Down here in Tassie, boat prices seem to routinely have 10k added to the price. I asked about this with Tassie's main boat seller and they said it's due to the 'strait' which is one of the silliest things I've heard. Because of this silly price inflation thing, many boats in Tassie sell exceptionally slowly and I'm talking years. There is a guy at my local marina who had wanted to sell his sloop for $69k for the past 4 years. Asking price is too much, but he won't have a bar of it. Over the past four years that he's been selling it and not using it, he's dished out another $14k in marina fees and hauled last year to antifoul.. don't figure.

Re: What price should I ask for my boat...

"I wonder if it is horribly expensive to convert one to tiller? Must look into that."

Can't be all that expensive. Bit of work with a saw and some mat'n'resin. It a job I have to do. Summer after this. Drawings are on the drafting table now.

A wheel is an 'orrible affectation in a thirty-footer!

Re: What price should I ask for my boat...

Boaty, don't forget to mention the recently rebuilt hydraulic steering

Perhaps you should jack up the price an extra 10% for CF members, after all it is an opportunity to buy a "famous" CF yacht

Regardless, I think you should get back to the boat and take dozens of photos and load them (hi res) to one of the many free blog sites. I think it is crazy to try to sell a boat with a limited number of photos or to not post hi res photos. Add a like to the photos on yachtworld or wherever it is being marketed.

Re: What price should I ask for my boat...

From my broker days..........."it's only worth what someone is willing to pay for it" :-)

We would generally price a boat close to what we thought was market and then slowly lower until the phone started ringing (along with making sure we were getting the word out which is really easy to do these days!)

All the best!

Got a 27'er with with tiller, even trade. We can meet almost half way, say St. John's, NF.
