It's very much like a mid 1960's Trident 24, but the front port is bigger (maybe an owner change?).

As a purchaser of all things fixer upper ish, my semi pro amateur opinion is to run away and never think about this boat again! Go online look at sailboat list ings or yacht world. Find a boat that's been on either site for a long time that is say maybe asking 4-8k and offer them $3k. Then go sailing. You'll spend countless hours and way more money than that getting it up to shape. If you work really hard at it and are lucky you can find free boats that are ready to drop in the water, save the yearly list of varnish and filters ect.

The trick is look around at the marina's, they usually have a corner of the lot or a separate lot for the "project" or forgotten boats. Look at the registration tabs to see when they were last in the water. The longer ago the better. If you find one that catches your eye with a little mold and mildew on it, write down the name from the cradle. Ask one of the yard hands or other boat owners what they know, then ask the office. If the office won't put you in touch, search their name and get in touch that way. That's my secret for finding cheap boats, but don't tell anyone... PM me if you want more details lol.

What you should want is a boat that with some cleaning varnish, fresh fuel, tune up ect, can be dropped in the water. Even this will cost you $1000's. That boat there looks like a couple of years of hard work for the typical 40hr a week worker like me. There's your weekends and summer vacations used up just getting it to where you could've gotten a boat for cheap in better shape, usually with lots of freeby gear too. Anyways that's my take after I got one project boat that was too far gone and 3 others that I fixed up and went sailing. The 3 I finished all looked to be in better more complete shape than that.

It looks too familiar to a fair few boats. There's an early Hurley with a front port that size, but it is split into two ports, with an unmissable grp frame in between.

In good news (to get me away from looking at more old boats, some of which I used to sail on), I finally turned up my almost new Mariner 2.2hp two stroke outboard (less than 10 hours and 15+ years old, it's been hiding too long).

Aww it would be a good 'apprentice' boat for a youngster to learn the ins and outs with.

Bits and pieces wouldn't exactly be very expensive for it.

when i was like 10 or 11 i got my thistle for free, it had sat behind a barn since 1975 so it was pretty worse for where. it took me five years but it turned out pretty good and it taught me a lot about boats and how they actually come together.
