What is comparible to a Beneteau Oceanis 400?

I'm scouting out boats and I like the Oceanis 400's but don't like the in mast furling system on them.

Ideally I would like to find this boat without the in mast furling system.

What is comparable out there?

Also, I would be interested in hearing from owners of these boats to see how they like them for live aboard cruising.

What don't you like about in mast furling? There are some negatives agreed but for general cruising, which the Benetubs et al are aimed at, the system has a lot of benefits too. Much of it comes down to getting to know the system and learning how to sail with it. We have a Selden system on our boat and we can easily get up to 9kts (hull speed) with it and we don't have a battened, performance furling main.

Of course there are Oceanis's out there with traditional slab reefing main sails so if this is more what you want then look for these rather than whinge about in mast furling.

Keep the bearings lubricated and a little tension on the outhaul when reefing/furling the main and the mast furl makes an easy short handed boat

Thanks for the reply Keiron. I am looking for other Oceanis's and other boats hence the question I posed asking what is comparable out there. Cheers.

Comparable to the Oceanus would be the Bavaria Cruiser (which I happen to own), the Hanse range, the Sun Odyssey and the new Dahler is a nice boat (was very impressed at the London Boat Show).

All our designed with cruising in mind and are aimed at comfortable sailing. Yes you can race them and some do come with racer options (Bavaria Cruiser 40 Sport for example). You should be able to find any of these with traditional slab reefing as well as in mast furling mains.

Hope that helps

Great boat for the money. Does everything pretty well. We enjoy the time spent on ours. It has inmast furling and I love the convenience given my wife thinks of herself as adornment.

Are you talking new or used? If new, you should be able to order the boat with a standard mast. What is your price range?
