I do think that may be it. It has a center console and a inboard so maybe thanks for the guess. Soon I'll be able to confirm. I'm actually in to sailing even though I'm used to a Morgan and a small trampoline catamaran in the gulf. I can't wait to get back at it and do some true traveling.

Mac, it is an Irwin 10/4 as others have stated.
Here are a few listings from SailboatListings.com which indicate the Yanmar diesel and wheel steering were commonly used in the swing keel version.
1975 in Illinois
1976 in NY
1978 near you in Clearwater
Although I am not a big fan of Irwins, I believe this particular model was co-designed by Robert Johnson, the founder of Island Packet Yachts.

Yes, I agree she's an Irwin.

Well that's good. Is it a decent boat? I only care about rigidity and reliability, is it possible to take it to carribean? I'm fit and well used to harsh environments.

Re: What boat is this? owner doesn't know.

I just looks at the specs on sailboatdata and if it is an Irwin 10/4 she seems to be sturdy and would be good for what you intend since with the board up she'll have shallow draft.
If you mean that it has a center cockpit then it might be the Bombay Dawson 26 which is a bit lighter.
I've never seen one in person but I would never look a gift horse in the mouth.
Thanks for your service by the way.

But, the Bombay Dawson 26 doesn't have a bowsprit according to sailboatdata.

Finally figured it out its a Irwin 28. Once I'm done cleaning and fixing I'll post photos on my profile page.
