What Are the Advantages and Disadvantages of Ferro Cement ?

Wondering what the Advantages and Disadvantages of Ferro Cement sailboats, there is a lot of Sampson Sea mist and C bird 32-37 ft boats coming on the market lately in my price range ie 10k-15k however something like a good C & C racer cruiser 35ft is around 30,000 what are the differences and why are these ferro cement boats so cheap.

Any help would be great.

Thanks Captain Shawn

Re: what are the advantages and disadvantages of Ferro Cement

The subject has been discussed on the forum numerous times and in great detail. Go to the top of the screen and click on the "Search" button and type in "ferro" and the try "ferrocement". You will find enough to keep you busy for hours.

Re: what are the advantages and disadvantages of Ferro Cement

I will save you some timeI've read them all) Build Quality difficult to determine, which causes 1:low resale, 2: difficulty finding insurance,3: Difficult in finding surveyers,4:Most built in the states were homemade and have "custom" fittings, So hard to cheaply repair.
The list goes on. BUT if and only if you find a good boat that meets all your needs for the right price, that was well mantained, and you never really plan on selling it, then, you may have something there that will last you forever. (and you can afford to not carry much insurance)(and you can pay cash for it)
