Westerly Corsair 36

Blue Water? Ugly Tub? Can anyone shed some light on this boat? I've heard it's a great Blue Water Boat. It's an Ugly Tub.

I did look up it's PHRF Rating to check it's speed, and the rating was 141 which was much faster than I expected. The Pearson 365 for example has a PHRF rating of 210.

Its the lines below that count...
Westerly's are not known for producing pretty boats..
they have however in their time made some great strongly built cruisers and club racers despite their looks.. the GK's for example.. can double as fast cruisers offering better than usual accomodation.
I do feel they went to big when they started the Oceanlord series..
I love em...

Re: Westerly Corsair 36

I wonder if I would have any problem getting parts for them over here. The engine is a Volvo Penta so no problem there I wouldn't think but how about the heads and oven etc.

The Corsair 36 actually has two (2) Heads and one of those is right beside that aft berth which is nice.................

For actual boat bits there is/was a place in Shouthampton that had all the Westerly spare's for rudders etc.. can't remember it but a WOA should be in the know. http://www.westerly-owners.co.uk/
For ancillary stuff like for heads and cookers I'd contact the appropriate manufacturers..

Re: Westerly Corsair 36

I have owned one for the past seven years. It is heavy duty when it comes to winches and rigging. The fibreglass is thick below the waterline. Safety wise it is the very best. Comfort wise it is right up there with a wide quarter berth next to the nav station which is a big plus when running shifts at the wheel. I have done a lot of customizing but have had no problems. In 2010 she was struck by lightning and all electronics were fried. The riggin showed damage as well so everything was replaced to the tune of 40K. In short, I would buy another in a heart beat. If you experience anything unusual or have any questions don't hesitate to ask.
All the best,
Clif

Re: Westerly Corsair 36

I own a Corsair. It is a great Cruising boat with a fair turn of speed. There are several Corsairs in the USA. There is also a pretty active Westerly Owners Group in the States. A lot of in formation is available on the Westerly website Westerly Owners Association. Original Westerly spares can be purchased from Trafalgar Yacht Services Fareham Hampshire UK. It is run by ex Westerly people.
Met with 2 Americans last summer who had been cruising round Europe in their Corsair for about 5 years!
