FYI there is also one made into a pool bar in Musket Cove Fiji that had wrecked on the reef.

Has anyone ever heard or seen a Wauquiez Gladiateur 33 with a double set of spreaders?

Just wondering why this boat has them.

The broker says/guesses it's because it's the tall rig version.

Did you buy the boat, and if so, what do you think?

No, I'm still sailing the Ole Bristol 27. Funny thing is though I did call about it a couple days ago. it's still for sale.

it's up the bay and has tiller steering, deep draft for up there at 6', it's an '83 model and has a sail drive all of which I hear can delay sales. It has dropped in price from $38,000 to $24,000.

I want it because I believe it will sail really well and point quite nicely especially as compared to what I'm sailing now .

I use to race so I like boats that will point. When I bought the Bristol the plan was to learn monohulls for a couple years then go larger and better ....as in better performance

Re: Wauquiez Gladiateur 33

I was curious about how it sailed, and the sail drive system.

Thanks for the response. I am just starting to search up in RI, and a friend recommended Waquiez as a boat well worth looking at. There are a couple of Praetoriens up in this neck of the woods, and I was wondering what you thought of the boat's handling and quality.

Re: Wauquiez Gladiateur 33

I have had my Pretorian for 18 years and love her. I've put 16000 miles on her since I bought her, most of which were singlehanding and off shore. They didn't call Pretorians the "Swans of France" for nothing. And as to the ability to point, I always enjoy dropping the main when sailors are with me that are unfamiliar with the Pretorians. I sheet in the head sail hard which allows me to sail so close to the wind that I can then drop the traveler and release the main sheet and the main luffs. I then casually drop the main and fold it while sailing to weather! I love to see the expression on my sailing friends faces when I do.

Do you have a saildrive?

That's one of the worries I have with the Gladiateur I'm looking at. How much maintenance is involved ....as in how many times do you need to pull the boat in say a 5 year period?
