Water Usage

I'm conducting a survey on the average fresh water usage of full time cruisers.
1. Please indicate number of people on board
2. fresh water storage capacity
3. average daily fresh water useage
(including fresh water shower or rinse)
4. mode of collecting / making fresh water.

Thank you for your participation. I'll be collecting and using data for only one week.

Re: Water Usage

1. Two people fulltime livaboard-cruising
2. 100 gallons
3. We are not all that conservative and average 12 gallons a day
4. We fill up when stopping for fuel. When at anchor we dinghy water in via 7 gallon jugs

Re: Water Usage

Impi, 2 of you use 250 liters each day? Is that a typo?

For us,
1. 2 full-time live aboard
2. 100 gallon (375L) storage
3. 6-10 gallons (30-40L) used each day (trying to average in washing days, etc and it depends on how much swimming we do) but will be washing the boat a lot more with fresh water now (new watermaker).
4. 30gph watermaker and rain catchment that can collect 100gph in a downpour

LOL ... I know, I know. We are heavy consumers of water and of electricity but are fanatical about cleaning the boat. We also take long hot showers during the day.

Re: Water Usage

But 66 gal a day? How often do you go through water pumps? Do you leave the water running continuously during showers?

I'm not judging you - I just can't imagine where 66 gal/day would go on our boat even if we washed it regularly and somehow took even more showers than we do (we take multiple showers each day now). We just bought a 30gph watermaker because we plan to use more fresh water washing the boat, etc. Even then, we estimate our water usage going up to 15 gal/day - maybe 20 during dry season and a salty boat.

Re: Water Usage

1. 1 person, Full-time liveaboard (6 months of the year)
2. 500 Liters in 2 identical tanks
3. 25 Liters (showers, laundry, dishes, boat washing, cleaning dive equipment)
4. Spectra Ventura watermaker

p.s. Greybeard: you might be in America, but this is an international forum and most of the world uses SI (metric), so you are in huge minority with those archaic units of measurement And a gallon from where I came from is either 3.75 liters or 4.54 liters.

Re: Water Usage

~1 gal/day/person? I drink more than that.

I suppose perhaps for a single event like a 12 day Atlantic crossing, water usage can be low. However, would you consider 60L/day for 13 people reasonable full-time live aboard usage?
