My wife and I have lived aboard and cruised with
Morgan Out Islands for 37 years so I have some insights. If your 416 is the tall rig
sloop you will have better windward performance than I do with my 413
ketch, but at my best
weather (15 to 20knts) I can always get within 45 degrees of true. Charley Morgan once ststed to me that the boat was planned as a vessel to
motor well for the
charter trade. It's a comfortable cruising "truck" and the shoal
draft allows a lot of cruising opportunity, but this gives up some sea comfort in bigger seas. A few points to watch for...check for
delamination of the
rudder,- hairline crack at port-starborad division,
corrosion at
mast step,
corrosion or separation at stem fitting...check back up plate in forepeak. Like many older boats, much will depend on it's earlier care. 'take care and joy, Aythya crew
