volvo 18

Will be looking at a Cs 30 this weekend it has the Volvo 18 hp. my question is, is this model one of the Perkins crossovers. The boat is a 1985 cs 30.

Engine of that age is more likely be a 2002 series. Twin cylinder, separate injector pumps, oil filter on the front. Probably got the dodgy MS2 gearbox too.

So that being said, would this be one of the bunk volvo's with all the problems and hard to find and expenesive parts.

I installed an 18 hp in 1980, it was not of the 2002 series... not sure when it all changed though. Get a pic when you are there and maybe we could identify it. I guess the seller should know...

The boat is listed on yacht world,the listing is with Napa Valley Marine. Its in califorina,bay area. There are pictures of the motor and it lists it as 18 hp.

I have a 1986 CS 30 with the volvo 18 hp 2002 and to this point i have not had one bit of a problem with it...fuel consumption at 1500 rpm .5 gals per hr...Now granted It has aprox 400 hrs on a head job done before i bought it 3 yrs ago...As for parts I have not had a big problem finding them but again nothing major needed at this time...source of parts hasnt been a problem yet.....
