Re: Using boom to lift out perkins 4108

my wooden boom worked just fine to lift my perkins 4-108 out not merely once but in and out twice each. you will not break your boom and you will have good control of engine with a lifting line.
i braced my boom with a chock before lifting my engine out of my main saloon... each time out was same yet different. works well without issues

Just plan for all contingencies and double up on your safety measures. Take anything heavy off your engine that you'll be removing once on dry land and even drain the fluids. I like to pad everything that might get a scrape. Have some friends over and appoint one to be in charge of safety at every inch that it is lifted.

Good luck. It is not necessarily the "old" way. There were cranes many years before there were heavy diesel engines in sailboats. It is the economical way.
