Trip to Vietnam and Back Aboard Mac 26

I have just returned from sailing my 26m from hong Kong to Vietnam 1500k. She performed perfect and we did encounter force 6 and 7 you have to sail them in a certain way, modify a few bits of the boat.

If anyone wants to know more details then let me know thanks.
Ian

Re: Trip to Vietnam and back Mac 26

Hi Ian,

Well, just a couple of initial queries;

Clearing out of HK procedures?
How did you choose your weather window (it being typhoon season at present) - any especially useful forecast sites?

Did you sail direct to VN?

Your impressions of checking in to VN? Which port of arrival?

Any feeling for sea state?

Ship traffic a problem or not?

How do you feel about the boat after the run?

Thanks,
Richard

Let's start with it was blowing force six and x miles off x. I decided to modify the boat to handle this weather. I made x modification while bouncing all over and water was pouring over the decks. Thank god I installed x before leaving. Standing knee deep in water I decided to x . The boat was much better afterward

Hi Ian
Yes I am HK based. VN seems to have been a difficult experience for others in the past so just wondering... Potential to work there in future but boat is HK.

Re: Trip to Vietnam and Back Mac 26

Hello Ian:
Re charts, what charts were you using for the Nha Trang area and how recent were these charts?

The US NGA no longer publishes charts for non-US waters. Were you using British Admiralty charts or Chinese charts?
Thanks, jdh938

Re: Trip to Vietnam and Back Mac 26

I would also like details

The only information I have been able to get is from Noonsite: VIETNAM - The Elusive Future Cruisers' Paradise

I have repeatedly been told no movement without Vietnamese pilot yet there is currently an F24 from Hoi An built in Saigon VIETNAM SAILING
who seems to be able to travel between Hoi an, Nha trang and Vung tau unhindered , so it would appear that it can be done somehow.

I am in Nha Trang now, the weather here for the last month and a half has been sunny days with 0 gusting to 5 knots, perfect powered boat weather.

I'm interested in acquiring a 26M I'd love to know what modifications you made for the heavy weather.
