To paint or not to paint a deck

Hi All, my newly purchased triton 26 has a pretty poor deck it was badly oxidised which I have removed most of.
The deck is solid with some spider cracks but no sponginess, after cleaning and scouring I have noticed dark specks appearing through some of the top coat I plan on
Waxing to give it some protection but I don't think it is going to shine. My question is do I need to paint to protect the fibreglass underneath or would I just be doing it for cosmetic reasons, I would rather not paint and save the time and money, but I don't want my deck to start falling apart. She is 37 years old. There doesn't appear to be any signs of previous painting so I'm guessing its original gelcoat.
