Thoughts on wireless radar

I'm thinking of putting radar on my trailer sailboat. Since the mast goes up and down, the wireless versions look pretty darn handy. Only power to plug and unplug, not the signal cable.

Seems like I have 2 choices. Furuno, which uses an iPad or iPhone for the display, or Raymarine, which requires their display to use.

Raymarine will probably support their entire unit for some time, but it's a lot more money. Furuno has no control of iPhones and iPads, and potentially, a firmware change from Apple could make them obsolete.

What to do?

Other than commenting on the foolishness of radar on a trailer boat, (feel free if you want) anyone have any thoughts? Maybe even on the general choice between the 2 brands in general?

Thanks for any guidance.

Nobody told me it was stupid, so I bought the Furuno.

It'll be awhile before I get it all going. i'll report on it once it's going.

Re: Thoughts on wireless radar

As I understand it, you have to log the iThing on to the Furunu's WiFi network. Which means that you can't do anything else that might require a network connection at the same time. Unless you have dedicated iThing, just for the radar.
