Thanks GeoPowers, thats very kind of you.

Getting back to the original topic, I'm glad you love your 393. Your contribution was most helpful.

My other discussion at the moment might shed some light as to why this topic was hijacked.

We have whats called an Adaptive Auto Pilot (on the tug boat, not the bene), which can work out whats going and adapts to anticipate wave and swell movement. Probably cost as much as my sail boat
Used to have an older generation Raymarine autopilot on Layla that just learned/remembered sea state - the course computer developed issues and I replaced it with a newer generation computer with a built in gyro - What an amazing improvement! In heavy air/seas, (with proper boat trim, of course) the autopilot does wonders - drives the boat much the same as described over the waves, virtually no pounding or getting drenched....

There are two words that should never be used in the same sentence as South Coast 36, and they are "quick" "sail".

Surfinwinnininni, the only other boat I consider less suitable for serious offshore work and I don't mean that "girlie" stuff up around the equator, is any boat with the name Beneatau on it.

Now I know why others, don't want people on this site to know their boat is for sale.

Glenn, this forum has people with a wide range of opinions. It seems like the poster you are referencing has a unique perspective on which boats are suitable for offshore sailing and that's fine, but I think many here would probably disagree with him. As a Beneteau owner and admirer, I certainly would.

Unfortunately, he seems interested in merely stating his opinions without explaining them, which makes his comments less than useful IMO.

Mark, Seeing where you have been with it says it all. I sent you an email about three weeks ago, thanks for you reply. Your site has motivated me and my wife to move aboard and live life. You do have some goofy pics. P.S you have a beutiful wife I can see why you keep her off the mainland. That a compliment to her not a perverted comment.

Thanks
David Hart

Speedo,

My posting was said tongue in cheek.

As a former South Coast 36 owner who knows Glen he would appreciate (I hope) the joke.

I can assure anyone that a SC36 is a very capable boat.

As for Beneteau there a far too many sailing about in every part of the world both in charter and privately for them to be anything but capable.

As anyone who sails would know, the weakest link is usually the sailor, not the craft.

I hope this has cleared up the matter.

Cheers

As someone who did consider a Beneteau 393 recently, but went on to order a new Oceanis 37, this thread has been reassuring. The main reason we didn't pursue the deal was that it was a 3 cabin charter setup that didn't suit our needs.

We weren't able to get a sail on a 37 and had to rely on glowing emailed remarks from a local owner and crew member as to the sailing abilities of the current 37.
