Yep, that's how you bring a boat like that in! Bring her in hot.... well maybe not quite that hot but close! I never tire of seeing that scene!

If ya got bunches of horse power, and big rudder and prop it's not to hard to do LOL but needs a bunch of practice powering up to a floating log or such, before ya try it at the Marina or the fuel dock LOL Ive trimed a dock or 3 over the years, doing the PNW fish dock stop !!

Re: The Wanderer sailboat used in the Captain Ron movie sold

I was just talking to one of the locals down here in Costa Rica...

He says there were three boats used in the movie Capt. Ron, all in varies states of repair... One of them spent some time in Golifto, Costa Rico before the owenr died.

According to the local, this boat is Punta Arenas, in the Gulf of Nicoya with its masts cut of an in very bad shape.

Interesting... whenever Hollywood wants a good looking, salty, romantic boat they grab a Formosa 51.

The one currently for sale on Yachtworld in Hawaii was the boat used in "50 First Dates". It's called Viking Spirit.

William Garden sure had an eye for the romance of sail.

You'll also notice in the movie that all the scenes of the boat sailing, there is water coming out the exhaust. Meaning the engine is going...that's an indication of how well they sail.

Fair comment if you've owned one, or spent enough time on one to know it well enough to sail it properly...

Could just as easily have been Hollywood having to get a shot on a day, at an angle for best sun/shadow effect, possibly in light air etc etc, which could be vastly different to the optimum for sailing.

I would imagine at the displacement and beam, it needs a fair amount of wind to get it going. Saw one out of the water and was amazed at the amount of wetted area.

Yeah. They're Fat Bottom Girls all right. I know a number of owners who all claim that they sail a lot better than their reputation, if you know how to sail them.
But it's horses for courses. They sail exactly the way they were designed to. They are a long keel, heavy displacement boat, so they sail like a long keel heavy displacement boat.
They don't point like a fin keel greyhound, but when the conditions are getting heavy and the greyhounds are wimpering, they're the St Bernards saying 'what's the problem?'
Great liveaboards, and they sure are good eye candy.

Re: The Wanderer sailboat used in the Captain Ron movie sold

They sail wonderful in an 18Kt breez. . 7.5 kts.

There even more fun to race.

And once you learn your boat to can do a Capn Ron and impress your frinds. All you need it that big 26" prop in reverse and the rudder hard to port.

Soon to be gone. Never to be forgoten. Best wishes to the new owners.

By the way Angelique just sold. NO broker. Sailnet.com." - The world's largest online sailing community"

I will miss the huge amount of space and her beauty.

Re: The Wanderer sailboat used in the Captain Ron movie sold

formsas sail damnwell in large breezes over 20 kts. under 10 kts they do not steer. they are awesome sailing shiplets.
they used 3 boats--1 for interior
for exterior
and one with green masts for sailing.
dont knock knock em until ye try em, then ye will be hooked --they are awesome and do exactly what they were designed to do -- cruise in COMFORT.
is like comparing a 240Z with cadillac.
rofl....done sail well---gimme a major break--i SAIL one.

thankyou for the ix of angelique--she is a BEAUTY!!!!
