The perfect offshore cruiser!?

Another important thing when looking for a boat... new/inexperienced European members should remember is... the posts above are for US owners/buyers... you don't NEED to go over 32ft to find a 'perfect offshore/ocean cruiser' for you..
Its a brain defect suffered over there that bigger is better.. dunno if its a by product of the milk.. or the cookies..

Perfect is a silly concept... optimal for various conditions or needs is a better way to approach this.

I do belive it is in the milk and cookies! If the tobacco companys manipulate the content of cigs.,and now they own the food processing companys(RJ Nebisco),surely they manipulate the content of the food! Wait ,I am already addicted to Orios,they taste so good there is no need in"Manipulating" the content of them! Maybe they put Orios in Cigs!Yea thats it Orios in Cigs,those tobacco people sure are smart! I think 32 ft is ideal for myself,some in Texas do think bigger is better!..

When I got my current boat I went the get what you like and accepted that I didn't know as much as the boats' designers. The boat is a lot better than the "numbers" suggest (I'm not going into all of the "numbers")!

So stop making yourself insane and get a boat to spend time on. It doesn't take much to know if a boat was designed to be a crusier or a racer so just get a cruiser if that is whant you are interested in.

If I had never read any of those old books I would have saved myself a couple of years and around $20,000, which means those books were pretty expensive!

HERE'S AN EXAMPLE OR TWO: PUT YER USER NAME IN CAPS. THEN CALL A 37' BOAT A POCKET CRUISER. PARDON, I MEANT TO TYPE POCKET CRUISER.

Oh boy. Awhile back we had a thread on here supposing that trailer sailers were pocket cruisers. That "someone" said they were is simply incorrect. We can put that Crealock 37 on a trailer too.

yeah we yanks have a bit of a time with size--sometimes it actually matters..lol

i love my 41 formosa---a 51 would be perfect but i could get along with a vagabond 47....talk about the perfect cruiser...LOL--is mine on steroids.

i am very truly happy with my choice, despite her woes and blemishes and faults.

in usa we learn the size thing from teejans and alaskans...

as there truly is no such thing as perfection, go out and sail everything and see what the differences are. then choose the one that makes your heart beat best and stays in your dreams at night.

Now I'm curious Zee... 41 for you is managable solo.. push come to shove.. but a 51 would have you stuck till you find volunteer crew..

I read these threads and come from a different direction... most head for the 70-200ft dreamboats... or latest models beyond the average joe's pockets..
I go in the opposite direction.. whats the most perfect boat to achive my desires within my possible budget.. and I luv offshore..
Lotta crap about high pointing and keel ratio's... cruisers don't much like pointing if they can help it... voyages are planned to avoid it as much as possible.. to much like hard work.. speeds up wear and tear... lousy for your diet..

looking over the decks of my late friend's ct 54, i was floored by the hugeness of the creature....is way outside the realm of low dollars cruising capability.

btw--min eis a lil more handlable a si made use able my electric wndlass--so i have 2 windlasses on my bow, and will have near (lemme see---194, plus 250 equals...) more chain forward, will bring bow back to level, and boat will be much easier to handle sola, even when anchored in winds and seas........

one individual's perfection is another's intolerance, so make what you wish to sail perfect in your own eyes, and you will be happy with your choice whatever it is....

Tell ya what surprises me is that on another thread Zee was talkin about checking wire rigging with nylon stockings. Zee is one of the last sailors I'd have guessed wore nylons. I guess they go with her dress flip flops.

i still own them(stockings) didnt say i WEAR em--learned early on that they are good for using as fan belt replacements so a lady isnt stranded on the road after dark....

btw, i do clean up goooooooood.....when i wanna.

exactly...keep as much as you can in the cruising kitty. Go small with smaller maintenance. Less is more.
