Just curious little monkey, when does the fantasizing stop and the doing start? The perfect boat does not exist, so at what point do you become a doer instead of a talker? Or don't you?

This thread had been extremely useful in identifying what matters to me. I started out with a mixed but somewhat narrow conservative view of what I wanted and where I wanted to go; and now based on feedback here I've opened up to new possibilities - both in boat designs (such as racer/cruisers) and to other distant shores. Maybe too many and that is why it's a bit difficult. Part of me would want a nice conservative Westsail 32 as a horn bagger, but the other side of me would go for a Beneteau 405 or 38 for speed, a woody nav station, and aft cabin. Part of me would go for a sentimental Cape Dory 33 or a HR Rasmus 35, while the other side would go for a Gilbert Caroff Vulcain 35. Can't make up my mind what I want! I like them all!

But, it comes down to a matter of timing and $$$$. Since I've made my mind that the journey should be extended to a longer 3 year escapade down south rather than a smaller one up north, that buy time is most likely next spring. But I'll continue to explore and become knowledgable about the boats and market...then go buy someplace, drop whatever is there on a boat, and get out of dodge.

Banjer 37, what a surprise to see that on your list. But I see it has been removed. Was it the ketch rig or something else that changed your mind, like how hard they seem to be to come by. There are two in Richmond, one of them mine, if you care to have a look.

I never saw one listed in the USA in Yachtworld, sailboatlisting etc. That's one reason I dropped it.

Mixed feelings about sailplans and rigs today, but I think it will come down in the end to buying the best and most of whatever I can with whatever money I have budgeted for the purchase vs the journey. Hey, could be a pogo II 6.5 m!

Shame, having looked over a couple in France last year you really woodn't know that it is plywood, such was the superb finish, actually the deck is GRP.

Shame I haven't got £50k given its location.

Honestly, I don't mind composite west over ply. I worked in wood boat shop for a year and a few months. Loved it. Just not for me.

I just need a Horn Bagger that can also be a Tropical Slut.

That is AMAZINGLY cool. I think I saw one of those ashore in our marina a few months ago and totally marvelled at those super high aspect keels. What a beast! That could be the ideal South Coast cruiser!

In GRP, of course.
