Tayana New Build - References Needed!!!

Hi everyone!

I am in discussions with Ta Yang about a new Tayana 64. These days Ta
Yang offers as a standard a very bare configuration, so I counted over
100 modifications to the standard T64 spec in what i would want to
order. This is just to bring it to a level of spec comparable with Hylas or Passport standard.

I am hearing various things about Tayana's build quality. Naturally, many of these comments are coming from their competition -
so have to be checked! And I figured nobody in the world knows as
much about boats as this group!!! So, here I am, asking for
references, and any help with the following questions would be HUGELY
appreciated:

1. Bypassing Dealer. Is working through a dealer value-added, or is
working direct with the yard ok? Pricing direct from the yard seems
much more attractive, and I would plan to take commission at the plant
in Taiwan, as my planned cruising area is Asia-Pacific. Also, I am
located in a country where there are no Tayana dealers anyway. So, I
am interested in hearing from owners that ordered directly from Ta
Yang, not through a dealer. How was your communication with Ta Yang?
Did you at any point during the build feel like your instructions were
not being followed, or craftsmanship was substandard, or inferior
materials were being used? How closely did you have to supervise the
build to get what you wanted in the end? And if you did order through
a dealer - how important did you feel your dealer was to control the
quality of your desired specification?

2. Build Quality Issues. Did you have any issues with your Tayana
build, in particular on highly customized systems, where you feel that
the screwup was on Ta Yang's side? What kind of issues did you have,
with which systems? What should I look out for? How did you find
dealing with Ta Yang on warranties? If you didn't have any issues -
that would be also very valuable information, I am interested to see
what's the balance of happy/unhappy customers...

3. Interior styling. To get the Admiral on board, I promised her a
sleek light-wood "European" internal styling (for example check out
Bordeaux 60 - the Admiral totally fell in love with this stupid boat
for no other reason but the interior). Did any of you have a highly
customized styling built? How was your experience with Ta Yang on
this?

Once again, any and all comments relevant to the above would be highly
highly appreciated. This is one of the largest financial decisions I
have ever made in my life, and want to make sure I've done proper due
diligence. Thanks in advance for your help!

Re: Tayana New Build - References Needed!!!

I can't speak to any of these because my Tayana 37 is 30 years old and I am the third owner. But, I might suggest getting hold of Bob Perry, who has worked extensively with the Ta Yang yard. I don't know what he'd charge, but I know he has mentioned his consulting work on this forum.
