Tayana Flying Dutchman 50 comments

I am considering a Tayana Flying Dutchman 50, 1977. While old, she is in good nick, been upgraded, and has all the goodies I am looking for.

I know nothing about these boats and would appreciate any build comments, weaknesses, strengths, and overall reviews as the info on the net is very limited

Application is cruising shorthanded

Re: Tayana Flying Dutchman 50 comments

Thanks and there is little else out there on the net that I could find.
Just subscribed to Practical Sailor after decades of being a non-subscriber just now so that I can read that one.

One of my concerns is that this boat is built in 1977 and I am not sure of the quality control in those early days in Taiwan yards.

Designer is Eva Hollman and I can only fond a handful of yachts that she designed

Hello Hoghead,

I am interested in a FD 12 that has come on the market and would be really interested I hearing what you found out. Did you buy one? Even if you didn't what did you learn for your research?

It looks like a pretty solid boa, I would be very interested to learn how she sails.

Thanks,

Tim

Hmmm, I am not Tim. Thanks Hoghead, have received your info via PM and email. Appreciated!

Tim, is there a minimum of posts you must have done before the PM (private message) option is enabled?
regards
hank

Hank, contact Admin. They will open IM function. Don't think they have an automated function for lifting new member restrictions. They want to see you playing nice. 😇

Didn't know Cruiser's Forum had an IM (assuming that is Instant Messaging). I am only aware of PM (Private Message).
Not sure what you mean by "playing nice". I am happy to contact admin, but not sure the reason for me doing so. Is that to have access to IM?
Obviously I am not aware of all etiquette and possibilities on this forum. Very happy to learn

Re: Tayana Flying Dutchman 50 comments

I owned a Kings Legend 41 for several years. Also a Eva Holman design and built in Taiwan. Great sailing boat ( a little tender with fairly narrow beam ) but all in all a good boat. The biggest thing to watch out for in the Taiwan boats of that era was leaks in the cored deck with teak planking. Also all tanks were fibreglass construction and required replacement.
