tartan vs. larger volume production cruisers

any (specific) comments on suitability of Tartan (4100-ish) vs. beneteau (46/473-ish) - in particular suitability for cruising in british columbia/pacific northwest? 1 or 2 couples, days-weeks at a time, perhaps queen charlotte Is, Alaska/inside passage down the road. i realize different LOAs, but similar prices, which is my basis for comparison.

i've noticed that no one is shy on this forum to point problems/issues with peoples choices, so please, do bring it on before i waste my money.

A good freind of mine has a Tartan 4100. He has had a number of significant issues with systems including refrigeration, inverter, etc. but more seriously his decking has completely failed and he is now facing a decision to either replace the entire teak deck or rip it out and put down non-skid. In my humble estimation this is not a good show for a model year 2000 boat.
