Tartan 27 what's this?

There are two of these giant eyehooks in the bottom of the hull inside each cockpit locker. What are they?
Also the support for mast looks like the mast itself. I did not think that the 1966 Tartan 27 was keel stepped. Are they just using another piece of the mast for the support or is it keel stepped?

Looks like it's keel stepped.

The mast is keel stepped (inspect the support, mine needed attention). The older gentleman I bought my Tartan 27 from told me the 3 eyelets (you should have another under the v-birth) were used to help remove the hull from the mold as well as move it around the shop, but I have no idea if that’s true or not.

Re: Tartan 27 what's this?

The ring may be attached to the lead ballast if it's in the bilge. Lead ballast that has been cast to match the hull shape typically has a ring cast into it so it can be lifted into the boat. Usually it would be cut off after installation but have seen it left exposed on other boats.

It could also be a lifting ring for a crane to launch and pull l the boat out of the water though it looks a little small diameter for that purpose. In a lot of places boats are dry stored on movable cradles. The boat/cradle is maneuvered up to a fixed crane and dropped in the water.
