Re: surveyors in Maine

A little depends on the boat. I've had great experience with Gene Barnes out of Gloucester, MA. I know he travels pretty widely throughout the Northeast to survey. He sails a Hinckley and has surveyed two Tartans for me. I would recommend him on classic fiberglass boats. If you're getting the Morris from your other thread, I expect his experience with Hinckley's would give a solid basis. If interested, I can provide contact info via PM.

I have used Tony Theriault for surveys of two boats that I have bought, a 1966 Pearson and a 1986 Catalina. He does a great job, very thorough and a very nice guy. He will take the time to go over everything with you after the survey.

His website is Theriault Marine Consulting - Marine Surveys & Yacht Services - Maine marine surveyor, consultant Tony Theriault

I'll second Gene Barnes, be sure you're there for the survey, you'll learn a lot.

Gene surveyed my Hinckley, since then he's been a great source of knowledge and advice.

The Morris 40 is a really good choice for family cruising. I'm not sure it would be my choice for racing, unless the race is the Marion-Bermuda Flogging of the Varnish Hogs, in which case, see you there!
