"Cabin cruiser" -- you mean motorboat? Or sailboat?
If you're talking about sailboats, then the purposes you describe are well suited to inexpensive French production boats like Beneteaus, Jeanneaus, etc. They are quite affordable especially when 5 years or so old. They have excellent sailing qualities in weekend, coastal kind of situations (they are not as good for heavy weather). They have a lot of accomodation for their size. Find one which has not been chartered; look at a lot of them before you get tempted to buy one. Then when you started to narrow it down, hire the best, the toughest and most thorough surveyor
you can find. Be prepared to spend a lot of money
on upgrades and repairs
, even on a boat which the surveyor
says is in perfect condition.
