Only ever had one fire on a boat.

Dad was lighting the Metho stove on our first boat and the little cup thing overflowed when the boat rocked from a wake and as Metho is clear you can't see the fluid if its overflowing.

Anyway we nearly lost the boat.

Never seen or heard of a propane/butain/lpg etc stove fire on a boat.... But I know gas stoves scares people because of the big red sign.

you don't have a big red sign on a Metho stove so folks think they are safer...

The Origo tanks(one per burner) are removable. They are full of what appears to be an aluminum wool type substance. Fill with alcohol and the 'wool' prevents any spillage. The tanks each have an opening in the top where the flame exists. About as simple and bullet prove as it comes..

Butane lighter fuel would make me nervous - that stuff comes out rapidly and is like rocket fuel. As anyone who has ever set fire to a disposable plastic cigarette lighter will testify.

am thinking of scrapping the whole LPG thing and going to a meths/paraffin/petrol stove. Was looking at the coleman unleaded fuel 2 burner stove....opinions please????/

We had a simular problem due to space and decided to combine two problems into one compact unit and went for a Taylors oven, if you leave the door ajar it also acts as a cabin heater plus we cook some great meals and it is peanuts in cost to run, web site Taylors 030L but hope you have a few dollars more!
