Stellar 30: Anyone Know About Them ?

Just curious saw one for sale looks neat, 30' trailerable, center cockpit.
Anyone know any details regarding history or quality?

Dunno really there was a person on CL who had come from NY to see it and claimed it had multiple repairs. some large, some small. Wasnt really happy about it and the seller became mad and kept his deposit. He has dropped from 17k down to 10k over the last year so not sure whats up. Seems like an interesting boat, 30 ft center cockpit, diesel, and trailerable w a trailer.

Hello - i own a stellar-30, in Chesapeake Bay, Maryland. It is a deep keep version (5.5 ft draft). I was told there were only 8 of these built, would like to learn more about them. I believe they were built in the mid-80s by Jim Kyle.

LOL i just did a quick google search on "stellar 30" and found this thread, very cool! Anyway, have owned the stellar since fall 2004, and have had a lot of fun sailing it in the Chesapeake. It was made in Rockland Maine by a company called North End Marine, by an engineer named Jim Kyle.I believe most of other stellars are still up in new england/block island area. Mine has a deep draft (5.5 ft) so it gets a little tricky in some spots on the bay (i.e. approach to Rock Hall), but i really like the center cockpit design. The engine (9HP Yanmar) is still running great, although would like to upgrade. There was a nice write-up on the stellar 30 in a sailing magazine in the 80's, i'll try to track it down for point of reference. TD

Didnt see it, it is about an hour north of me, one Poster on Craigslist who was disgruntled posted that it had a repair patch and a small hole repaired, reading between the lines it didnt seem too bad, but again its a cored hull so what was done and how well? If its not bad then it sems like a steal.

I saw this boat. For the gulf coast you gotta love the 2 ft draft. Seems well made. TC did not tell us anything about sailing characteristics but then again his is the fixed keel model. Unless a survey showed excessive moisture, this appears to be a lot of boat for the money.

The boat sold. Someone got a good coastal cruiser for the limited investment.
