Starter Boat

I know there will a hundred different opinions on this, but what would be a good trailerable (I'm sorry) starter boat. There is a couple good resevoirs and federal impound lakes in my area, Mississippi, that people sail on. I want to be able to go to different areas and learn my skills before going out in the big water. Also, I am going to have to get my wife comfortable with the sailing also so wife friendly is a must. Might spend the night on a couple times a year, but mostly just day sail.
