Southern Cross 35 or 39

Offset for easy removal certainly makes sense, although I have read a few authors, Hal Roth among them, state that they intentionally offset their shaft by 5 degrees or so to counter act prop walk.

What type of boat do you have TN?

Sorry to try to breathe life into an old thread but does anyone here know if the Southern Cross 35 has any double berths in the main saloon, or are the settees both single berths? From what I gather this boat will only sleep 5 people maximum. The Southern Cross 35 on my short list but swapping a Pearson 26 for a SC 35 and not gaining a single sleeping space is a pretty big drawback for me.

My sc35 doesn't have a qtr birth and sleeps 5. Some boats have a qtr birth and maybe sleep 6?

Thanks for the reply. So I'm guessing one of your settees is not just a bench but turns into a double berth? Which side is it, and how does it convert? I don't see anything but simple single settees in all pics and diagrams, which without a quarterberth would only sleep 4 people...

Are you happy with the boat otherwise? Anything that bothers you or that you wish was different?

The port settee opens up to a double birth. I think my sc35 is an excellent blue water cruiser but I may be selling and going to a cat.

Old thread, that I wasn't aware of. I own a SC 35 since 7 years back and have been living onboard and cruising full time ever since.(2 people onboard)

Please feel free to ask me anything.... Sailed her about 15000 miles by now.

Great build, solid as a rock. Heavy boat but moves nicely in light air despite that. High aspect rig a big part of that I believe.

Straight shaft with the stern tube through the substantial skeg. Shaft is about 7'/2mtrs long in bronze.

Port salon bunk slides out to a double with the table folded. Quite clever solution that comes with a quarter bunk behind chart table port side. Some of them have no quarter bunk together with an aft facing chart table. Gorgeous wood work and joinery through out. State of art in fact.

At 6'1" I find every piece of gear in the cockpit to be exactly at the right spot and angle! Perhaps Mr Gillmer was my length. It's a superb classic passage maker. Another plus in this part of the world is that the shallow draft (5') allows us to anchor where few keelboats dare to venture.

Mine is unfortunately for sale ( see ad at sailboatlistings.com) due to family issues. It is in French Polynesia with import tax paid and on it's own private mooring in the best cyclone hole of the area.

Thanks for the reply. I looked at several SC 35’s. I am 6’3” and the headroom below was just not adequate. I am the happy owner of a new to me Bristol 41.1. Good luck in selling you boat. Sorry to hear of your infirmity.
