Oh wow! That looks absolutely invitingly beautiful!

We weren't able to schedule in a visit to Düsseldorf but surely you should visit the Nordic archipelago with your cool boat

Best wishes and feels like saying congratulation again!

Re: Southerly 480 - Build Thread?

A final picture of Discovery Yachts stand. Dusseldorf is a fantastic boat show I must say. I had a great time there and met a lot of interesting folk, sailors and non sailors alike. I hope all those that came to the stand and looked over the boat enjoyed their time and were well looked after.

It's great to be home though!

Re: Southerly 480 - Build Thread?

I think the boat was well received, Discovery seemed to do well with quite a few people asking to visit Southampton to talk more seriously about various boats in the range. From overhearing the sales guys the main interest seemed to be:

Southerly/Revelation 48
Southerly 430/435
Bluewater 50
Southerly/Discovery54

In my various chats I was frequently asked about the 380 as well particularly by Nordic sailors.

When I spoke to people the most common discussions on deck were about the keel system (ie Discovery 48 or Southerly 480), then the synthetic deck (Teak is standard) then inmast (Std) vs others for the mainsail. Down below the choice between raised and lowered saloon (Southerly/Discovery or Revelation 48), 2 vs 3 cabins, and Lithium vs lead batteries.

What was great for me to hear was the comments from the owner of a large repair/refit yard, who's verdict was that this was a "very well built ship - everything is done right"!

Re: Southerly 480 - Build Thread?

Oops - I'm a little ahead of the Discovery marketing team and folk may not have come accross the Revelation 48!

So they have had interest in a lowered saloon, fixed keel version of the yacht, since Discovery is about raised saloons, and Southerly is all about swing keels a new name was needed - Revelation. The Revelation 48 is a lowered saloon boat based on our Southerly 480. I believe the first one has already been sold off plan (the reason for the initiative?), but the design is not yet fully finalised so not announced. I saw a first draught of the "general arrangement" which I pinched for this page of my blog/site, you can compare the saloon areas of both boats here:

The boat should be back in the UK next week and will go directly to the commissioning/launch site. I expect she will be launched before the end of that week and then the mast will be stepped, sails etc put in place. Discovery will then test everything during commissioning at the end of which is the handover. so I guess it will be March. Then another period while we get our stuff on board before we set off on some short trips to ensure we are happy before we head towards the Med....

Thats the plan - - I have never yet stuck to a plan!

GREAT THREAD! Couldn't stop reading it.

Just one burning question, but I know better than to ask. ;-)
