It is really hard to shoot video or still pictures that accurately show wave heights for sure.
Several years ago, I had to go out in a RIB dinghy
from a 55 foot boat between Grand Cayman and Cuba
, doing a pick up from an air drop. I was estimating the waves at 8 or 9 feet, and breaking over the dinghy
at times, and we were just getting the hell beat out of us. When we pulled up to the big boat, we would be at the keel
one moment and at the railing the next, trying to unload the the dinghy and board and get the RIB
back up on deck
. I was so exhausted when I got back on deck
and done I just collapsed.
Someone on the big boat was filming the whole thing and I couldn't wait to see it. Later, I watched it and looked like we were barely moving and the seas didn't really look like anything more than a couple of feet high chop. I didn't even ask for a copy.
