Some Help Identifying this Boat PLZ!

Hey All,

Can you help my ID the make and model of this boat? I checked her out on the dock this morning and she needs a lot of work. She's got teak decks, center cockpit, separate aft cabin, and "classic" lines.

Thanks!

I dont have a clue what it is, but unless it is pre 1972 you should be able to find the HIN number molded into the fiberglass on the transome, stb side just below the rail. Sometimes they are so faint that you will need a magnifying glass and a flashlight to actually see it. If it is pre 72 you wont find the number. Looking at the boat, I dont think it is pre 72. Pretty boat but teak decks cost lots of time and money to repair, so be careful what you want. Just my 2 cents worth. ____Grant.

Thanks Grant, I'm gonna take another swing by there later and see if there's a HIN. I couldn't find it earlier but I may have just missed it.

I don't think so. The port lights aren't right. The Kelly Peterson 44 has a double port light just forward of the cockpit. The OP's boat does not. The shape of the port lights is different as well.

I agree, portlights look different, maybe custom ordered. And I believe the "Kelly Peterson 44" and "Peterson 44" had different portlight configurations. The plumb wine glass transom sure looks like Peterson's handiwork.

OK.... Here you go with my best guess: Formosa 46
Although maybe known as Peterson 46 and closely related to the Spindrift 46 and Peterson 44.

Aha! I believe you have it. The Formosas did come with oval portlights.
Here's a shot of one...

Re: Some Help Identifying this Boat PLZ!

Alright!
Now please tell me I won the boat!
From the pics it looks like it's docked in arid and rocky area, similar to my Western Sea of Cortez haunts... I could work on her this winter and set sail before spring!

Re: Some Help Identifying this Boat PLZ!

It does have the lines of a Peterson 44. I owned one for 10 years and loved it. So many different yards stole Doug Petersons design that it could be another knock off that I have never seen with those details. When you look for the HIN, look very carefully. I had to look 2 or 3 times on my present boat before I could actually pick it out. A repaint or repair work can make them almost impossible to see. Younger eyes help also. From those tiny photos (on my computer) I would say to be prepared for some major deck work. If it is a Peterson design, it will sail wonderfully. Best of luck. _____Grant.
