Solid Fiberglass Monohulls, a list

I've done a search, trying to find a list of solid fiberglass boats, i.e.: no core in deck or hull. I've read descriptions on Yachtworld. So far, I can't find much definitive information. A lot of opinions, or second hand knowledge. There is a thread in the Construction section right now regarding balsa coring, that prompted this post.

The topic comes up all the time, but there doesn't seem to be any definitive list. Please list any sailboats that you KNOW are solid fiberglass.

Mine is solid , hull and deck, heavy to, 2 inches and half at the turn of the bilge , lots of Beneteaus are solid at the bottom and even hull sides in some old models , decks are cored... add to the list...

My Islander 34 (60's to 72 ish), well really the yachtcraft kit version, has solid hull and deck. There is a wood backing on the deck, that was part of the mold, but no underlayment. Deck is just under 1/2" thick. Hull above the water line is 1/2" with glassed 3" half round stringers mid way along the sides.

The older islander 32 & 33 should be the same as they started with the 32' mold and stretched it 8" for the 33 and then 8" more for the 34'. Insides were close to the same volume. It appears that the 34 has a slightly longer aft overhang from the 32/33's I've seen and an aft lazzerette (or larger lazzerette.

Now I know Bristols have core in their decks, and I'm pretty sure Cape Dory did as well.... didn't Niagara have core too?

Actually I'd be pretty surprised if any of those boats had solid fiberglass decks. And why would you want that anyway?

Well the Bristol 22 Caravel our club used to own had about 6 feet of rotten balsa core removed from the deck. I saw the mush that came out of there.

Wiki seems to think all Bristols had balsa core decks.

The hulls of early Bristols were all solid, hand-laid fiberglass. The decks and cabin tops were cored with end-grain balsa.

Niagra 35 definitely has a core. When a friend was looking at Niagra 35 (which he eventually purchased) we researched it thouroughly and all the info said it was cored. I'd assume that a 31 being a cheaper boat would be cored as well.

Yep, I missed the bit about the cored deck. I figured he was worrying over a cored hull boat.

But the Niagara 31 has a solid fiberglass hull. The Niagara 35's hull is cored. I researched it thoroughly because there is a Niagara 31 for sale in North Carolina that I almost bought.

Island Packet's hull have no core, the deck is cored with a proprietary slurry of resin and microballons, heavier I'm sure than Balsa even though IP says it isn't but water has no effect on it.

To answer sandy stone's question about why anyone would want a solid deck: every time you put a hole in the deck, whether it be for hardware fasteners, teak decks, chimneys etc. there is the risk of a non-watertight seal. If you have a crack in the fibreglass water can infiltrate. Whenever water gets into that core...... and it will, eventually. I have an 1969 boat with solid hull and solid deck and that means one less problem for me to worry about. David

And as far as fully, solid fiberglass boats, I'd say your best bet is to look back towards when building boats out of fiberglass was fairly new. I can't give you any specifics on makes or models though, at least not definitively.
