Shower Me Timbers! Boats Up To 50' LOA with Shower Stall

Howdy Folks!

The purpose of this post is to identify those monohull sailboats that are up to 50' LOA that have a shower, that is, a real "shower stall" that is separate from the head/toilet area, so that one can shower and the head/sink/toilet area stays dry.

Why this thread or topic?
I have seen that many monohull cruisers wish they had a shower that was somewhat separate from the head, so that the head is not always wet from showers being taken by the crew. For many, that "separate shower" is a key feature that is considered a luxury or even desired on a future boat.

Some boats have a "sit down" tub/shower compartment. One boat I know of, a Nauticat 42 built in Finland, even has a separate sauna (optional).

While there are often comments posted about showering in the cockpit (I have done this), and some about the issues of humidity or mildew growth due to taking showers in a typical head in tropical areas or issues of condensation when showers are used in cold weather areas, I am interested in those boats that do have a separate area for showering (inside the boat, not on deck).

Unfortunately, most monohull boats under 50' LOA do not have a separate shower stall . Some boats do, and those are the ones I hope to identify here.

I recognize that many catamarans under 50' LOA have a separate shower stall, and that is a nice feature and a big plus for cats. In this thread, I hope to find monohulls with showers, as they are rarer at this size range.

For the purpose of this thread, please post a photo if you have one of your shower/head IF you have a separate shower and if that shower is IN the boat (not in the cockpit). If you post a photo, please also indicate the boat brand/maker, LOA and year/model.

Also, if you know of monohull boats that DO have a separate shower, post the name of the boat brand/maker, LOA and years or model if you know that.

As I come across monohull boats with separate showers, I will update this thread.

I will post a couple of photos to show you what I mean. Unfortunately, I captured these photos off the net, but was unable to note the brand of boat. But these two photos should illustrate my point.

Re: Shower Me Timbers! Boats Up To 50' LOA with Shower Stall

I always suggest doing a "search" of the forum to find earlier discussions. I have done that and found the following boats mentioned in an old thread from 2006.

NOTE: Some of the following boats may have a separate shower stall in SOME models (layouts) or years. Check to be certain.

Tayana 42 has a nice separate shower stall which we tend to use for storage. My wife would be upset if I posted a photo as it is now.

Gozzard 44 CC, LOA 50' Has a seperate shower stall with a bench seat, doors and opening port light. It's located midship and easy to use underway. It's adjacent to the companionway so it also doubles as a large wet locker on the really nasty days.

Slocum 37 and Slocum 43, bluewater cutter rigs from the 1980's all have full stand-up showers. Since we were going to liveaboard, having a separate shower was one of the features that we were looking for. Attached are pics of the head/shower in our s/v Singularity, a Slocum 43 from 83/84.

Liberty 458. Shower built for two in the aft stateroom. We also use this as our primary wet locker when underway.

Fwd head way up front. This can also be a one person shower but we just use it as the head and second wet locker

Its a great liveaboard layout and great underway.

Re: Shower Me Timbers! Boats Up To 50' LOA with Shower Stall

Valiant 40, in some configurations.

Polaris has a separate shower, stand up, with a seat in it as well, and separate shower pan. It has a curtain that you draw across the doorway which keeps all the water in the shower, and a switch operated shower drain pump.

Since each Valiant 40 was semi-custom, there are a bunch of different head/shower configurations and YMMV with each boat as a result.

Valiant 42s also have a separate shower, adjacent the aft head, which makes an excellent wet locker.
